As a wedding photographer, I always look forward to the small intimate weddings. They don't come around that often because most couples just know a lot of people! However, it's the intimate wedding where Alex and I really get to spend time with the couple and their family and friends. Katie and Riley planned a perfect wedding, and they did it in record time! From the time of their engagement I knew I wanted to be their photographer.
Katie is a friend of mine from when I lived in St. Louis. We had both found ourselves in the city and a little lonely. Me because of a break up, and Katie I think because many of her high school friends had moved away. We were both new to our church at the time, and were introduced by a mutual friend. I remember being relieved to find a close girl friend in the city that loved Jesus (this was rare). I quickly learned that while Katie is very beautiful, her heart is even more so! She is one of the most kind and gentle souls that I've ever met. She loves her friends deeply, she cares about the people around her, and the girl can speak fluent spanish...hello! So when Katie asked us to be a part of her big day, it was a no brainer!
Alex and I had met Riley one other time over dinner while visiting St. Louis. If I remember correctly, I was nervous and I talked far too much about myself (I do that sometimes) and probably didn't ask enough questions about Riley. He seemed rather gentle as well, very successful and accomplished, and yet quite humble. After spending the wedding weekend watching him care for Katie, and observing his relationships with his family, I would still conclude the same. Riley is good people....and he is a great match for Katie.
I asked Katie and Riley to reflect on their Wedding day, and here is what they had to say...
It was unseasonably cold for St. Louis. We woke up to 32 degrees, sleet, and a wind advisory. This really is the triple threat on a wedding day. Luckily the snow had died down by noon. This allowed us to brave the cold and wind and at least try our hand at some outdoor photos. Katie was a trooper! She decided to take off her coat and her shawl...all or nothing!
We are grateful to Katie and Riley and we are looking forward to seeing you grow old together. Katie probably baking Christmas cookies just like her mom, and Riley still finishing Ironmans even at the age of 70. Here's to your future together, and to the giggles of your future grandkids as they thumb through your wedding album photos!
